WANT TO BE A GOVERNOR?
The governing body is the strategic decision-making body for schools. It has a crucial role in making sure every child gets the best possible education.
- set the school’s strategic direction
- hold the head teacher to account for a school’s performance
- ensure that the school’s budget is properly managed
Governing bodies meet at least once a term. Many use sub-committees to look at more detailed aspects of their work and advise them on decisions. Committees often look at issues like pupil performance, the curriculum, staffing, finance and premises.
Governing bodies need committed and enthusiastic people with relevant skills including the inquisitiveness to question and analyse alongside important personal attributes, qualities and capabilities, such as the ability and willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Induction training and ongoing professional development is provided.
Governors are volunteers, but can receive ‘out of pocket’ expenses. In addition, reasonable time off from work is given.
If you are interested and feel that you have time to commit to this valuable role, please complete the Application form for School Governorship and send it back to us.
