Speaker: Bernadette Clinton
About the speaker
Bernadette currently works as the MFL Consultant with Hackney Learning Trust. She also teaches on the primary education programmes at Middlesex University and is an Ambassador for the British Council. She has worked in primary, secondary and higher education, as the Local Authority Adviser in Enfield and as a consultant to other organisations.
She is the co author of the book: “Leading the way: co ordinating primary languages (CILT 2009). Her degree is in Mandarin “Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. A high quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world.”
- To explore how the Ofsted Quality of Education criteria can support excellence in the teaching of primary languages
- To share practical ways that teachers can plan, implement and assess the impact of the languages provision
- To explore how an international perspective can enhance both the languages provision, contribute to providing each child with a broad and balanced curriculum and contribute to the development of Cultural Capital.
We will take participants through how they can use these criteria to plan, prepare, implement, assess and record impact and attainment. The session will include a variety of activities in French and Spanish and the presenter will model various groupings and ways of working in a languages classroom. All material and resources will be made freely available to participants and will be suitable for KS2 and KS1 teachers
