English | Opening Doors to the Teaching of Poetry at KS2 with Bob Cox | 1 February 2021 1pm – 3.30pm

Event Details

Bob will be showing how poetry can be planned for at the very heart of the English curriculum. Through poetry, your pupils can learn about word depth, rhythms, stylistic ranges, fluency and of course how spelling, punctuation and grammar influences meaning! Rich and creative approaches can support a deep love of poetry too with texts taken from across times and across the globe.

Schools around the UK have often reported the quality of pupils writing, including poetry, has visibly improved following quality text immersions and you will be able to build anthologies showing progress to demonstrate the impact of an enriched English curriculum for every single pupil.

How can poetry be taught?

Bob will model and explore ideas from his work with schools across the UK and abroad:

  • How to ensure quality poetry is the entitlement of all pupils
  • Ideas for planning progression and transition
  • How to develop a range of strategies for teaching knowledge and facilitating response.
  • Advice on poems, poets, our own mastery of the texts and immersing pupils in poems.
  • How poetry raises standards in English long term

The session is led by Bob Cox is the award winning author of Quality Writing books. Bob has supported more than 500 schools and delivered well over 1000 insets of various types across the UK.
